Looking to build your career while helping create meaningful opportunities for young people?

As a Youth Engagement & Early Careers Intern, you'll support projects that help young people access opportunities, develop confidence and build career resilience. Working alongside colleagues across the British Red Cross, you'll gather insights from young people, contribute to youth engagement activities, and help us better understand how we can make paid opportunities more accessible and inclusive. This is a unique opportunity to gain practical experience while making a real contribution to our work with young people.

What will a day in the life of a Youth Engagement & Early Careers Intern involve?

  • Engaging with young people and gathering feedback to help shape projects, resources and opportunities.
  • Supporting youth engagement events, workshops and activities.
  • Analysing recruitment data relating to young people and identifying ways to improve access to paid opportunities.
  • Developing resources, case studies and insights that support youth engagement, career resilience and early careers opportunities.

To be a successful Youth Engagement & Early Careers Intern, what will you need?

  • A genuine interest in supporting young people and creating positive opportunities for others.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Confidence using Microsoft Office applications and a willingness to learn and develop new skills.

Interested? Closing date for applications is 23.59 on Sunday 27th September 2026.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an in-person Assessment Centre in London, likely during the week commencing 5 October 2026.

For this role, we expect high volumes of applications. As such, it may not be practical or appropriate to interview all people living with disabilities that meet the minimum criteria. In this case, we may limit the overall number of interviews offered to both people applying under the disability confident scheme and applications made not under the scheme.

Who is eligible for this role?

This internship is open to young people aged 18-25 who can commit to a full-time placement from November 2026 to May 2027, in line with the funding criteria for this role.

We believe that a diverse range of perspectives, backgrounds and lived experiences strengthens our work and impact. We particularly welcome applications from people who are underrepresented in our organisation and the wider charity sector. This includes (but is not limited to) people living with disabilities, from ethnically diverse backgrounds, those with caring responsibilities and people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. We recognise that talent and potential can be developed in many different ways. Whatever your background or experience, if you're keen to learn, grow and make a meaningful contribution, we'd love to hear from you.

We are dedicated to building an inclusive, equitable and wellbeing‑focused culture where everyone feels safe, valued and can thrive. Guided by our Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Wellbeing Strategy, we foster belonging, psychological and physical wellbeing, and work to remove barriers to fair opportunities. Grounded in compassion and anti‑racist practice, we listen to diverse voices, value lived experience and create environments where staff and volunteers can succeed. Join us and be part of an organisation that leads with care, celebrates difference and helps everyone succeed.

In return for your commitment and expertise, you’ll get:

  • Flexible working: Remote and hybrid working.
  • Holidays: 36 days annual leave per annum (including bank holidays). Plus the option to buy extra leave.
  • Pension Scheme: Up to 6% contributory pension.
  • Recognition Platform: Managers can reward great work with retail vouchers.
  • Discounts: Discounts through our Reward Gateway, Blue Light Card, Tickets for Good, and more.
